CULMORE FLOOD DEFENCE WALL IS NOT A ‘DONE DEAL’ WARNS DOBBINS

Cllr Angela Dobbins.

SDLP Cllr Angela Dobbins has welcomed the news that Transport NI – formally known as DRD Roads – has accepted responsibility for the maintenance of the wall in Culmore.

The organisation says it has included the flood defence structure in its plans for 2015.

A member of the steering group, Cllr Dobbins warned however: “Whilst I am not raising false hopes of this work being carried out anyway soon I am delighted at last that someone has stepped up to the mark and accepts liability.

“Transport NI have said that this maintenance work of underpinning and extending the wall  will hopefully be carried out in the next financial year but it is very much dependant on available funding.

“Although this is a step in the right direction, the steering group will continue to lobby to get this work done sooner rather than later to stop the risk of flooding to property, damage to the roads and for the safety of the residents.”
