Murdered launderette worker Marion Millican

AN evil Co Derry man was today jailed for 16 years for blasting to death his former lover with a shotgun in a “jealous rage”.

Last month, Fred McClenaghan, had been found guilty for a second time of murdering his ex-girlfriend Marion Millican in March 2011.

The prosecution had described her murder as “akin to an execution” of an “entirely innocent woman”.

Thug Fred McClenaghan, of Broad Street, Magherafelt, had denied the murder in Mrs Millican’s Portstewart launderette where she worked claiming it was a suicide pact that went wrong and the gun went off in a struggle.

However, the jury seen through his tissue of lies and unanimously found him guilty of her cold blooded murder – a single shotgun blast to the chest from no more than 3 ft away.

McClenaghan had assaulted Mrs Millican’s three time during their relationship, once even knocking her unconscious.

He was arrested within hours of the shooting after dumping the 100 year old antique shotgun as he fled.

McClenaghan was already sentenced to life in prison and today a judge spelled out at a tariff hearing how long he will have spend behind bars.

He will not be eligible to apply for parole until 2027 and even then there would be no guaranteed Parole Commisioners would set him free.
