DUP politician Jim Wells has been lambasted by members of the SDLP for referring to Joe Brolly as a Londonderry GAA star.

Joe Brolly was described as a Londonderry GAA star by DUP Health Minister Jim Wells.

Joe Brolly was described as a Londonderry GAA star by DUP Health Minister Jim Wells.

The Health Minister took to his Twitter account to inform his followers that he had met the ‘Londonderry GAA star’.

Wells tweeted, “Good to meet Joe Brolly the Londonderry GAA star at the Organ Donation Family Discussion Day.

That tweet resulted in Wells being subjected to a string of stinging responses from those annoyed at referring to Brolly in that manner.

SDLP John Dallat believes that Wells should use the word ‘Legenderry’ to describe Brolly if he has a problem with saying the word Derry.

He told the Irish News, “It just shows how juvenile some DUP politicians are.

“Would they describe the Church of Ireland diocese of Derry and Raphoe as the diocese of Londonderry and Raphoe?

” The next thing they’ll be insisting on calling the Apprentice Boys, the Apprentice Boys of Londonderry – or maybe Derry’s walls might be the ‘walls of Foyle’ or something equally ridiculous.

The Former Derry GAA star and RTE pundit hasn’t responded to Jim Wells tweet.

The pair met at launch of his Organ Donation Family Discussion Day, which will take place next Thursday.
