The Mayor of Derry, Councillor Brenda Stevenson, tried her hand at some upcycling  when she joined participants at the free “Paint Transformation” workshops taking place throughout the city as part of the European Week for Waste Reduction EWWR 2014.

Members of the public were invited to bring along a piece of furniture to revamp under the guidance of facilitator Catriona Jones, from The Olive Tree.

Supported by Derry City Council, the workshops aimed to teach people how to breathe life into tired but loved, old furniture using chalk paint.

All the materials and expertise were provided free of charge and it is hoped that due to the levels of interest from the public that further workshops will take place in the near future.
