Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness will be the keynote speaker at a major public meeting being held by Sinn Fein in Derry next week.

The party have a held a number of similar meetings in the past in the city with hundreds in attendance at the Guildhall and Millennium Forum.

The meeting, taking place at 7.30pm on Tuesday next in the Watefoot Hotel in the Waterside, will be the first in a series of such gatherings to be held throughout Ireland.

Stressing the meeting would be “public,” Raymond McCartney, the party’s Foyle MLA, said they would be “open to everyone.”

He added: “No other party presents themselves in front of the public like this.

“The meeting will provide an update on the current national political and economic situation, outlining the republican strategy towards 2016 and there will be an opportunity for Q&A.”
