MAMMA MIA! HIT MUSICAL TO PLAY MILLENNIUM FORUM

mamamiaThe worldwide smash hit musical, Mamma Mia!, is to play Derry’s Millennium Forum next summer.

Seen by over 54 million people, the show will play stage seven shows over five nights, beginning on 7 July.

Featuring the timeless music of Swedish supergroup Abba, Mamma Mia is the highest worldwide grossing live-action musical film of all time and one in four households in the Britain has the DVD, which is now Amazon’s biggest selling DVD in Britain.

From West End to global phenomenon, the London production, it is one of only five musicals to have run for more than 10 years both on Broadway and in the West End, and in 2011, it became the first Western musical ever to be staged in Mandarin in the People’s Republic of China.

The cast for the MAMMA MIA! sees Sara Poyzer will play Donna Sheridan with Shobna Gulati as Tanya, Sue Devaney as Rosie and Northern Ireland’s Niamh Perry playing Sophie Sheridan.

Sara has also played Donna in the West End production of Mamma Mia! and her other West End roles include Janet in Rutherford & Son, Emilia in Othello and Mam in Billy Elliot.

Shobna’s many television roles include Sunita Alahan in Coronation Street, Anita in Victoria Wood’s award-winning BBC series Dinnerladies, Nisha Clayton in the last ever series of Where the Heart Is for ITV, and, most recently, Fiona in Kay Mellor’s new BBC series In the Club.

Sue’s television roles include Jane in Dinnerladies, Liz Harker for four years in Casualty, Rita for three years in Jonny Briggs and Debbie Webster for two years in Coronation Street.

Mamma Mia! is currently playing in Singapore and will visit Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Liverpool and South Africa before coming to the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Dublin and Belfast’s Odyssey Arena ahead of coming to Derry where it will take to the stage the Millennium Forum from Tuesday 7 July  to Saturday 11 July.
