Students from North West Regional College show off their products at last year’s Trade Fair event at Foyleside Shopping Centre.

Students from Derry are preparing to start a business as they take part in the Company Programme with local charity Young Enterprise.

The Company Programme will see 16-18 year olds from Lisneal College, Thornhill College, Limavady Grammar School, St Mary’s College and North West Regional College develop marketable products or services and business plans under the guidance of Volunteer Business Advisers from local businesses.

The companies will then have the opportunity to sell their wares at specially organised Young Enterprise Trade Fairs across Northern Ireland.

Carol Fitzsimons, Young Enterprise chief executive, said the Company Programme was the “ultimate enterprise experience.”

She added: “It gives young people the opportunity to develop the skills they will need for a successful future in education, employment and enterprise through a hands-on ‘learning by doing’ approach”

The programme runs until the end of the academic year in May when a panel of Northern Ireland’s top business people will decide the Company of the Year to represent Northern Ireland in the Britain-wide finals to be held in London in June.
