INTERNATIONAL CALL-UP FOR DERRY ATHLETES

A number of Derry athletes have been included in the Northern Ireland Masters Athletics Association team to compete at next month’s British and Irish Masters International Cross Country Championships.

Male and female runners from City of Derry Spartans and Derry City Track Club are included the squad for the event taking place in at Wollaton Park, Nottingham on Saturday, 22 November.

In the men’s team, Michael Murphy (City of Derry) has been selected to compete in the veteran 35 category while Cathal McLaughlin (Derry City Track Club) will run in the veteran 45 category, for which City of Derry’s Gareth McGee has been named as a reserve.

Well-known duo, Malcolm McCausland (Derry City Track Club) and Gerry Lynch (City of Derry), have been named in the veteran 60 and veteran 65 categories respectively.

Dermot Connolly (City of Derry) is a reserve in the veteran 55 category.

In the ladies’ team, City of Derry duo Marina Campbell and Jackie McGinley will compete in the veteran 35 and veteran 45 categories respectively.

Hannah Shields (City of Derry AC) is named as a reserve in the veteran 45 category.

City of Derry pair Una Gavin and Paula McGilloway are reserves on the veteran 50 team.
