burglarPolice have reiterated their warning to householders in Derry to ensure their homes were secure following burglaries in the city over the weekend.

The house at Stoneywood in the Prehen area was broken into sometime between Saturday morning and Sunday evening,

An attempt was made to break into a second house nearby.

Meanwhile, a necklace and matching earrings cast from Indian gold were stolen from a house in the Culmore Road area.

The incident happened at Griffith Park on Friday evening.

Police are appealing for information regarding any suspicious behaviour in both areas, including callers and vehicles.

PSNI Detective Inspector David McQuade encouraged members of the public to report any suspicious activity in and around vacant properties or dwellings where the occupants were away for a period.

He added: “In addition, householders going away overnight or for an extended break should have a neighbour, friend or relative check on the premises.”

DI McQuade said information could be given on the police non-emergency 101 telephone number or provided to the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
