A commitment to carry out area enhancement works in the Glencaw Park and Fern Park areas of Galliagh in Derry has been welcomed by SDLP Cllr Brian Tierney.

The Team-works project at Shantallow Residents Association has agreed to carry out enhancement works after Colr Tierney hosted a meeting on site to discuss the state of disrepair.

Cllr Tierney said: “A number of residents brought the issue to my attention over the last number of weeks. I contacted Shantallow Residents Association and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive both of which I must commend for being very responsive to the needs of the community.

“I am delighted Team-work’s project is to carry out the much needed general tidy up, which will consist of painting fences and gable ends, scraping moss and power-hosing.”

Cllr Tierney said he hoped to see workers “on the ground” within the next two weeks.

He concluded: ” I think we will see a massive change in the area when the face lift is complete.”
