suz-web-largeA “learn to fish event for ladies” will take place in Derry this Saturday.

Hosted by the Loughs Agency at its headquarters at Prehen on the River Foyle, the event aims to encourage women to get into the sport of angling through hands-on participation.

During the day participants will be professionally coached by qualified instructors covering how to cast a line, catch and unhook a fish and some basic health and safety.

There will also be workshops on tying flies and how to prepare caught fish for cooking.

Gillian Simpson from Loughs Agency said:  “A recent review of Angling in Northern Ireland found that were barriers to women accessing the sport.

“This event aims to break down those barriers and give women and girls the opportunity to learn the basics of the sport so that they can consider it as a potential hobby or pastime.

“As well as the competitive nature of the sport, it also has health benefits through the opportunity to relax and unwind and be outdoors.”

Three sessions will be heldon Saturday, each lasting for approximately 90 minutes.

As there is limited availability,  booking is essential – email [email protected] or telephone 02871 342100 to book your place.

All the sessions are free and all equipment will be provided.

Just bring clothing suitable for the weather!
