MTV CRASHES DERRY: ALCOHOL AND DRUGS WARNING

MTV-003Anyone under the influence of alcohol will not be admitted to the MTV Crashes gigs being held in Derry over the next two nights, police have warned.

Up to 20,000 music fans are expected to attend the events being staged at Ebrington Square in the Waterside.

As well as a restriction on the consumption of alcohol, the PSNI has warned stewards and staff will be on “alert” for drugs.

Police in the city believe £60,000 worth of cannabis seized in the city earlier in the week was destined for the event.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Drugs, don’t use them. Stewards and staff will be on the alert.

“Our passive drugs dog does not bite, it does not even bark – it just sits and stares meaningfully at people it believes have drugs.”

Pointing out a condition of entry was a search at the entrance, the spokesperson added: “If you have too much to drink you will be asked to leave.”

Meanwhile, the Met Office is forecasting cloudy conditions for both nights with a 20 per cent chance of rain.
