The PSNI in Derry have arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of robbery following an incident at a restaurant in the Waterside area of the city last night.
Police rushed to the restaurant on Spencer Road at around 8.50pm after receiving a report a man had entered the premises armed with a knife and had attempted to take the contents of the till.
However, he was unable open the till but left the premises with other items including a handbag belonging to a staff member.
No one was injured during the incident.
Investigating PSNI officer Detective Constable Conor Gaile said after obtaining the suspect’s description, a was arrested a short time later in Gortfoyle Place.
DC Gaile added: “He is currently in custody helping with enquiries.
“I would ask anyone who witnessed this incident to contact CID in Strand Road on the non-emergency number 101.”
