The car set on fire on Racecourse Road on Saturday night.

More needs to be done in order to tackle anti-social activity in the Shantallow area, local Sinn Fein Councillor Tony Hassan has said.

Cllr Hassan was speaking after up to 50 young people were involved in activity which resulted in a family car being burned on the Racecourse Road on Saturday night last.

Cllr Hassan said he would be contacting the local PSNI commander to find out what response they could provide but stressed it would  take a multi agency approach to deal with the situation.

“The level of anti community activity needs to be addressed and parents need to take full responsibility for the actions of their children.

He added: “It is unacceptable that families are left without a car because young people feel they can burn it with impunity.”

Cllr Hassan concluded: “The community must also help by providing information to the PSNI so that these people can be held accountable for their actions.”
