SECURITY ALERT PERPETRATORS “TARNISHING GOOD NAME” OF STRABANE – KELLY

Van torcedThose behind the latest security alert in Strabane have been accused of  “tarnishing the good name” of the area.

SDLP Cllr Patsy Kelly was speaking after a number of homes were evacuated earlier today following the discovery of what police have described as a “suspect object” in the garden of a house at Innisfree Gardens in the town.

Cllr Kelly said the local people were “totally fed-up” with “this constant intrusion” upon their lives.

He said: “I totally condemn those responsible for yet another disruption to the Strabane community’s routine and peace of mind.

“Those responsible are tarnishing the good name of this area and disrupting the elderly and families alike.

“It boggles the mind to think what would have happened if a child had come across this device. Thankfully, nobody was injured.”

Cllr Kelly called on anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “Someone in the community must know who is responsible for this spate of incidents that have occurred in Strabane over the past year.”

Cllr Kelly concluded: “They have a duty to bring that information to someone in authority, whether that’s the police, anonymous Crimestoppers or elected representatives.”
