Ballymena United 2 Institute 1

Insitute lost 2-1 to Ballymena United despite a battling performance in their Danske Bank Premiership  clash at the Showgrounds tonight.

Stephen O’Flynn – whose first strike against Dungannon Swifts won him the Northern Ireland Writers’ Goal of the Month for August – got Paul Kee’s side off to the perfect start, tapping home from a yard out as early as the second minute.

Alan Taggart brought the home side level in the 26th minute when he fired an absolute screamer to the roof of the net.

Taggart put United in front from the penalty spot in the 65th minute.

United keeper Nelson pulled off a brilliant save three minutes from time to deny Stute an equaliser.

The defeat, Insitute’s second in six league games, sees the Drumahoe side drop to seventh in the table while the win puts Ballymena on top, a point ahead of defending champions Cliftonville who were held to a 0-0 draw by Linfield.
