Jordan O’Keefe will launch the St Mary’s College app tomorrow.,

A Derry college has become the first school in Northern Ireland to have its own app.

Britan’s Got Talent finalist, Jordan O’Keefe, will launch St Mary’s College’s app tomorrow.

The app has been designed to help senior pupils studying IT as well as giving parents and pupils access to useful and current information about the school.

The app is available across iOS, Android and Windows platforms for mobiles and tablets.

Features include useful information such as bus routes, school holidays, subject information and GCSE pod links.

It also has lots of multimedia elements such as photo and video galleries celebrating the many achievements of pupil and staff.

Marie Lindsay,  principal of St Mary’s, a Specialist School in Science and a Microsoft Mentor School, said everyone at the college was “absolutely delighted” with the new app.

She added: “It is another part of our digital strategy. Both parents and pupils are familiar with apps and it is a great way for them to access information about the school.

“All anybody needs to do is go into their app store on their mobile device and search for St Marys College, Derry and they will be able to download the app for free.

“The app icon is our school logo so it should be familiar to everyone. “

Jim Murray, chief executive of Troll Inc, the company that helped St Mary’s develop their app said it was a “great project” to be involved in.

He said: “It’s great to see technology being embraced like this, St. Mary’s are ahead of the trend offering a new way to support and inform students, staff and parents.

“This was a great project to be involved in; it was exciting to work with a school so passionate about their digital strategy.”

The app is now available for download.
