Keith Shiels.

A large entry is expected to take part in the annual Dessie’s Run taking place at Gransha in Derry tonight.

Entries for the event, held in memory of a former Sparta AC club captain Dessie McNulty, will be accepted from 6.00pm.

The 10K road race has always been a popular local event and is used by many as preparation for next month’s Waterside Half Marathon

Top local athletes taking part will include Keith Shiels, Declan Reed, Greg Roberts, Scott Rankin and Chris McGuinness while Teresa McGloin will be hoping to retain her title but will face tough opposition from Marina Campbell and Gillian Watson, who finished second and third respectively last year.

With a £500 prize fund covering both the open and age group categories available a great night’s racing is on the cards.

Race HQ is at the U3A Foyle building in the middle of the Gransha Park grounds and entries will be accepted between 6.00pm to 7.00pm tonight, in advance of the 7.15pm start.

Online entrants can pick up their race packs there and pay their entry fee.

Meanwhile, entries will also be accepted up until 9.00pm for the upcoming Waterside Half Marathon.
