FAI CUP: HUTTON TO MAKE CHANGES FOR VISIT OF MALAHIDE

Cliff Byrne: misses out through injury.

Cliff Byrne: misses out through injury.

Peter Hutton is set to make a number of changes to the Derry City line-up for the Candystripes’ third round FAI Cup clash with Malahide at Brandywell tonight (kick off 7.45pm).

Hutton made six changes ahead of last week’s league defeat by Drogheda United but has conceded tonight’s team to face the Dubliners would have a “more familiar look.”

Which means Rory Patterson, the league’s top goalscorer, is almost a certain starter having missed last week’s game through suspension.

Ryan McBride, one of a number of regulars rested last week, is also expected to make the starting line-up.

However, he will be without the services of Danny Ventre and Cliff Byrne who are both expected to be out of action for a number of weeks due to injury.

Ventre has a tear in the back of his knee while Byrne tweaked his medial ligament during training in midweek.

Hutton has warned his players tonight’s opponents will be no push-overs.

Managed by former Bohemians boss,  Pete Mahon, the Leinster League side signed striker Michael Scott from UCD and Danny Mahon, with Bohemians previously.

Kevin Cronin has also played in the League of Ireland as has Niall McArdle who spent four years with Sunderland.

And their young left winger Cillian Timmins is rated the best player in the Leinster League.
