REILLY WELCOMES ESKAHEEN VIEW SAFETY WORKS

The completion of safety works to a retaining wall in Eskaheen View in the Waterside area of Derry which posed a significant risk to children playing, has been weclomed by local SDLP Cllr Martin Reilly.

Cllr Reilly said: “Constituents raised with me their concerns about a retaining wall which presented a very real danger to children and others playing at the end of Eskaheen View.

The wall before it was repaired.

The wall before it was repaired.

“This area affords people one of the best views over our city and therefore it is natural that children would want to play there. Indeed, the wall in question had goalposts painted on it.

“I understood the concerns residents had that the wall could give way – especially in periods of heavy rainfall – something which happened in Marlborough Terrace and Harding Street in recent years on the cityside.

“I therefore spoke with the Council’s Environmental Health team who in turn contacted the owners of the wall – the NI Housing Executive.

“I am delighted these safety works have now been completed – and very much welcome the erection of the ‘four blockwork buttresses’ now in place following these representations.”
