Parents on working tax credit are being encouraged to apply for free school meals, uniform and PE clothing allowances.
Derry SDLP Cllr Angela Dobbins, the newly-appointed member of the Western Education and Library Board, encouraged those working tax credits to apply as soon as possible.
Cllr Dobbins said: “Those on working tax credits were not eligible for clothing grants or school meals for secondary school children.
From September this criteria will change.
“There is only one application to complete and this can be done online or by contacting WELB for a form.”
Cllr Dobbins concluded: “I would urge parents to apply now and not wait until September as to allow for processing times or delays.”
