John Barry Quigley presents the 2013 Tony Quigley/Shakes McDowell Memorial Cup to TJ Anderson, captain of Celtic Swifts. Included Francesca McDowell, match officials Mark McGarrigle, Noel Moore and Martin Dunne, Hugh Carlin, captain Finn Harps (defeated finalists) and Stephen Quigley.

The first two quarter-finals of the Tony Quigley/Shakes McDowell Memorial Cup take place this evening at the Magee playing fields on Duncreggan Road in Derry.

Now in its ninth year, the competition has proved popular with local football fans in the North West in that it is nine-a-side played on a full-size pitch with no offside – making for end-to-end action and plenty of goals.

Holders Celtic Swifts return to defend the title they won last year when defeating Finn Harps in penalty shoot-out in the final.

The Creggan outfit, hotly-tipped to retain the trophy, take on Ardmore at 7.30pm tonight.

Before that, Strand United take on Ballymac at 6.30pm.

Tomorrow night sees Tony’s Boys take on Top of the Hill Celtic at 6.30pm while Derry City will face Tristar at 7.30pm.
