The destroyed traffic lights on Northland Road.

Three men were arrested after a joyriding incident in Derry which saw a set of traffic lights destroyed.

The men, aged 21, 22 and 33, were detained by police after a car crashed into the lights close to St Mary’s College on Northland Road shortly before 8.00am on Saturday.

Although damaged, the vehicle was able to be driven from the scene but was stopped by police at short time later at Springtown Road following a report of a car mounting a pavement.

A PSNI spokesperson said all three were released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The spokesperson asked anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone with information to contact police at Strand Road on the 101 non-emergency telephone number.

The spokesperson added: “Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
