Van torcedPolice in Derry are appealing for information after car stolen in the Waterside area of the city in the early hours of this morning was later found burned out close to the Donegal border.

The Toyota RAV4, which had been stolen from Hazelbank Road in Drumahoe, was abandoned and torched at Coshquin Road at around 4,30am.

Forty-five minutes earlier, it had been spotted being driven erratically near the Texao filling station just across the border in Bridgend.

Police believe it  may also have been in the Synge Court area of Ballymagorarty at about 4.00am along with a quad when two men were spotted trying to break into cars in the area.

Police believe the quad may have been a red and black Yamaha that was also stolen from Fincairn Road in Drumahoe in the early hours of this morning.

A PSNI spokesperson said asked anyone who could help identify those who stole the vehicles, or used them during the night, to contact the CID at Strand Road on the police non-emergency 101 telephone number.

Alternatively, it can be provided to the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
