FUNERAL OF REV DR JONES TO TAKE PLACE THIS AFTERNOON

The funeral of Rev Dr Stewart Jones, the Presbyterian chaplain to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry who died while diving off the coast of Donegal at the weekend, will take place this afternoon.

Rev Dr Jones (57), died in Sligo General Hospital where he was airlifted after getting into difficulty while diving off St John’s Point near Dunkineely on Saturday afternoon.

It is understood he had been accompanied by the 24-year-old son of Derry minister when the tragedy occurred.

Married with three adult children and originally from the Bessbrook area of South Armagh, Rev Dr Jones had been minister of Donemana Presbyterian Church for the past ten years.

Among those who have paid tribute have been Dr Michael Barry, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, Bishop of Derry, Most Rev Dr Donal McKeown and Regional Development Minister, Danny Kennedy, a lifelong friend.

Rev Dr Jones’ funeral will take place at 2.00pm this afternoon in Donemana Presbyterian Church.
