GOLF NEWS: LEGAL EAGLE PAT LANDS CAPTAIN’S PRIZE AT LISFANNON

Winner: Pat McMyler.

Winner: Pat McMyler.

Local solicitor Pat McMyler “swept the boards” to win Bosco Reid’s Captain’s Prize by a huge margin of four shots in conditions which only could be described as “criminal” at North West Golf Club.

On a day when even the ducks refused to venture out, 198 members of Lisfannon club
took to the fairways to show their appreciation for the popular and hard working captain.

With a strong wind and constant heavy rain sweeping across the course, and with play off the “back markers”  scoring was very difficult.

Sean G O’Kane led for most of the day with a well compiled 37 points, a score most thought would be enough to win the coveted prize.

Late in the afternoon, Vincent Grant (jnr) playing off a seven handicap returned a fantastic score of 38 points, playing the last 10 holes in level par.

With only 16 competitors left on the course it looked likely that Vincent would lift the most sought after prize at North West G.C.

That was  until Pat McMyler came in with an astonishing score of 42 points, having accumulated 24 points on the front nine helped by a birdie two at the 162 yard third hole played into a fierce wind.

The back nine added 18 points to Pat’s score dispite a no-score at the easiest hole on the course, the 90 yard par three ‘The Fairy'” at which Pat had some “bunker trouble.”
