A local taxi company is supporting and encouraging the Western Health Trust’s smoke-free policy by using “smoke-free air fresheners” in all its cars.

Derry-based City Cabs is one of a number of cab companies backing the smoke-free message by displaying the air fresheners in their taxis to ensure their customers are reminded of the policy.

Mary Campbell, Western Trust Smoking Cessation Nurse Specialist said: “We are delighted to receive support from the local taxi companies here in the West.

“Providing a smoke-free environment is extremely important for the health and well-being of everyone and to have this message carried through from the taxi companies is a great incentive to the Trust.”

The Trust is currently carrying out a public survey of the smoking ban it introduced to all its premises in March this year.

The Trust is carrying out a survey to determine the public’s thoughts on and how they have found the transition.

Since introduced, patients, staff and visitors are no longer allowed to smoke at the entrance of Trust buildings, car parks or inside their own cars on Trust premises, including Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry.

To complete the survey go to: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SmokeFreePublic.

The Western Trust is the first health authority in the North to ban smoking in its grounds.
