Keith Cowan: scored winner.

Keith Cowan: scored winner.

Shamrock Rovers B o Finn Harps 1

An early Keith Cowan goal earned nine-man Finn Harps three valuable points against Shamrock Rovers B in a bad-tempered Airtricity First Division game at Tallaght Stadium which saw three players sent off and six booked.

Cowan scored what proved to be the winner in the 10th minute when he found the back of the Rovers’ after being set up by Josh Mailey following a short corner taken by Michael Funston.

Funston was sent off along with Rovers’ Ryan Doolin after both players clashed off the ball in the 26th minute.

Both sides had chances to get on the scoreline but both keepers, Rovers Conor O’Malley and Harps Conor Wynn, were in excellent form.

The visitors were reduced to nine men in the 68th minute when Sean McCarron was shown a second yellow card by referee Keith Callahan for a tackle on Evan Osam.

Harps’ manager, Ollie Horgan, was sent to the stands seven minutes later after an angry exchange with the fourth official following a Osam tackle for which the Rovers’ player was booked.

It case of “parking the bus” from then on in for Harps who held on for their second win at Tallaght this season.
