Orangemen parade in BelfastThe DUP (Democratic Unionist Party) is now “dancing to the tune” of the Orange Order, Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has said.

The senior Finn Fein representative was speaking after it the DUP  – along with other unionist parties –  announced last night it was pulling out of today’s planned North South Ministerial Council meeting.

Martin McGuinness said he was “disappointed” meeting would not proceed as planned.

He added: “This is clear evidence that the Orange Order is now setting the pace for political unionism and the DUP in particular is now dancing to its tune.”

Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson, of the DUP, has said the Stormont institutions were now under threat following the Parades Commission decision to ban an 12 July Orange Order parade from returning along part of the Crumlin Road in Belfast.

Unionist parties last night walked out of talks on parades, flags and the past being held at Stormont in protest at the Commissions’s determination.

Last week, the Commission also banned Orange men from parading through the centre of Strabane.
