The two way system of traffic along Bridge Street in Strabane will at the start of next week, Sinn Fein West Tyrone MLA Michaela Boyle has said.

Ms Boyle said she had received confirmation from Department of Regional Development (DRD) Roads Service the two-way system would resume as and from Monday morning next

She said: “My office has been in contact with Road’s Service once again this morning about progress on the Bridge Street works and it was great to receive confirmation of this news that everyone in Strabane has been waiting for not least the hard pressed local traders and taxi drivers.

“After the full closure of Bridge Street on Sunday for final tarring some tidying up work still has to be completed but this will not impact upon the permantant re-opening of the two way flow of traffic.

“Given that additional car parking bays have also been installed at both sides of Bridge Street it is hoped that this will also allow for a much freer flow of traffic and alleviate the bottle neck on the approach to the bridge that has been a major problem up until now.”

She concluded: “While the works have caused major inconvenience since their commencement, the visual amenity of the area has been undoubtedly greatly enhanced and hopefully will ensure a much freer flow of traffic from here on in.”
