Surfing Derry…. The Beach Boys.

It’s time to get Surfin’ USA as The Beach Boys head to Ebrington Square in Derry tomorrow for their only concert date in Ireland this year.

Ebrington Square will be a sea of Hawaain shirts as fans of legendary US groups flock to hear them belt out classics such as, Surfin’ USA, Good Vibrations, Cottonfields and I Get Around.

The Beach Boys have sold in excess of 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time and are listed at number 12 on Rolling Stone magazine’s 2004 list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time.”

The crew of the victorious Derry “LondonDerry” Doire Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will get another legenderry welcome when they make a special appearance on stage at approximately 8.45pm, shortly before the Beach Boys’ performance begins.

Due to the level of demand from the public, Derry City Council has reviewed its existing arrangements and permitted a small area to be made available for people wishing to bring small foldaway chairs.

Fans are advised that due to the size of the concert site this area will be restricted and spaces will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Anyone intending on using chairs are reminded that this may affect their view of the concert performance.

Stewards will be available on site to provide assistance.

Local band John Deery and the Heads will open the concert.

Patrons attending the concert are encouraged to use city centre car parks and to access the Ebrington site via the Peace Bridge which will remain open to the public – Foyleside East car park will remain open until 12 midnight and Quayside until 11.30pm.

The Limavady Road “Park and Ride” will be in operation for concert-goers from 5.45pm  and again after the concert finishes.

There will be no parking on St. Columb’s Road for the concert.

The Ebrington site is fully accessible and a number of accessible toilets will be available for patrons with a disability.

A viewing platform for fans with a disability is available but space on this must be booked through the Box Office in advance.

Concert-goers are advised to dress in preparation for rain as mixed weather is currently expected tomorrow.

Local group John Deery and the Heads will open the concert from 7.00, after winning a support slot competition organised by Derry City Council as part of its Music City 2014 programme.

They will be followed by concert favourites, The Whistlin’ Donkeys, at 7.45pm with the the Beach Boys due on stage at approximately 9.00pm.

Tickets for The Beach Boys’ concert priced £20 (plus £1.50 booking free) are available from the Millennium Forum Box Office, telephone 02871 264455 or online at www.millenniumforum.co.uk.

Tickets are also currently on sale at Derry City Council’s information point in the Festival Village, and can be purchased at the gate at the concert venue tomorrow. Gates open at 6.00pm.
