SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan attended a parliamentary event at Westminster at which , which  24 – 27 August and the incredible success of Derry as the first ever City of Culture were highlighted

Mr Durkan said: “This was a great opportunity to highlight some of what was achieved during Derry’s City of Culture year and in particular to promote the Walled City Tattoo 2014.

“Although our year as City of Culture may have officially ended, a three year Legacy Promise has been put in place to continue its momentum and the transformation it brought to our streets.

“I am delighted to support this year’s Walled City Tattoo – which represents a further stage of that legacy. Indeed, this was one of the highlights of the City of Culture year and it is great to see it established in the calendar.”

Mr Durkan said he had “no doubts” the Tattoo would  a “huge success again” – attracting thousands of visitors and entertaining a huge audience with “fantastic sound and spectacle.”

The added: “The Tattoo will once again allow us to share our stage with nationally and internationally acclaimed musicians, singers and dancers.”

Mr Durkan the “stunning cityscape backdrop” and the traditions it showcased helped to put Derry “confidently on the map.”
