dawnchorusDerry’s Music City 2014 celebrations will get under way tomorrow morning with a summer solstice Dawn Chorus at the iconic Grianan Fort just across the border at Burt in Inishowen.

Hundreds are expected to attend the event which will get under way at 3.00am – the beginning of longest day of the year.

The dawn chorus will be led by Cór an Ghrianán, under the musical direction of Fahan’s Mura Canning.

Traditional musicians, Robert Peoples, Ramon Ferguson, Ciaran Carlin and Joleen McLaughlin will also perform.

Music City Festival director Gareth Stewart said the event would “bring alive” one of Ireland’s most spectacular sites get the festival “off to a great start.”

Due to the large anticipated large crowd, a park and ride facility will be provided at €2 per car in a supervised car park.

The Dawn Chorus is a “family” event and alcohol is strictly forbidden.

Also, due to health and safety regulations, access onto the walls of the fort will be restricted.
