DERRY CLIPPER REMAINS OUT IN FRONT AS FINISH LINE GETS CLOSER

The Derry “LondonDerry” Doire continues to lead race 14 of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race as the finish line in Derry gets ever closer.

A new wind has resulted in boat speeds picking up and the frontrunners extending their lead over the rest of the fleet by more than 200 miles.

With less than five days to go the finish line, the Derry Clipper is holding on to its lead ahead of its only challengers for the number one spot –  Jamaica Get All Right in second place and GREAT Britain in third spot.clipperjacket

Meanwhile, the race’s official charity, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, is giving you the chance to show your support to teenage cancer and win the ultimate memento – a one of a kind autographed Henri Lloyd jacket by legendary  sailors, Ellen MacArthur and Robin Knox-Johnston.

Announced as official charity of the Clipper Round the World Race 2013-14 back in October last year, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is a charity that aims to give young people in recovery from cancer the chance to rebuild their confidence through sailing.

It works with every young person’s primary cancer care unit, taking young people aged between eight and 24 sailing while they are in recovery from cancer.

For just £5 you can enter the raffle for a chance to win this unique jacket and all proceeds from the sale go to the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.

The winner will be drawn and announced by Dame Ellen herself at the Clipper Race finish at St Katharine Docks in London on 12 July next.

To date the Clipper Round the World Race has raised over £16,000 for the Trust. This will go such a long way in helping it achieve its three-year plan to double the number of young people it works with by 2016. The funds raised so far will enable it to take an additional 32 young people on a first time sailing trip with the Trust.
