northwestgolfclubIt was a family affair at City of Derry Golf Club yesterday as Danny and Marty made it a McGrellis one-two in the annual John Cooke Cup.

Playing strokeplay off the yellow tees, Danny (16), despite a blimp at the par four 10th hole where he took an eight, Danny rallied well to finish the next eight holes in three over gross for a nett 65.

Marty (12), who also had trouble at the 10th hole where he took a triple bogey seven, finished just one shot adrift with a 66.

Gross winner, Stewart McGinley with 71 shots, also had trouble at the 10th hole where he managed to take eight shots.

The 10th hole caused a few problems for some of the golfers no more so then the man who had a 12 on his card.

In third place was Philip Doherty (8) with a nett 67, plying  the back nine in one under gross.

Eunan O’Boyle took the back nine with a nett 30.

Spare a thought for the golfer who finished with a 68 nett despite finishing with two triple bogies.

Shot of the day belonged to Sam Condit who used his trusty five wood to ace the par three 13th hole.

Full result:

1st Danny McGrellis (16) 65

2nd Marty McGrellis (12) 66

Gross Stewart McGinley 71

3rd Philip Doherty (8) 67

Back nine Eunan O’Boyle 30 nett
