PLANTS AHOY! DERRY SCHOOLCHILDREN TO WELCOME CLIPPER YACHTS WITH PRIDE

Primary school children from around the city will gather at Derry City Council offices at the end of the week to show off their “Plants Ahoy!” planter displays as part of the “Pride in Our City” 2014 launch.derryclipper

The displays, planted and maintained by children from ten different local schools, will be presented to city Mayor Cllr Brenda Stevenson in display planters this Friday.

The planters have been decorated in recognition of the return of the Clipper Round the World 2013-2014 Yacht Race and Legenderry Maritime Festival will be on display at various locations along the quay for the duration of the festival, after which the children’s work will continue to be a fixture on the landscape throughout the summer, going on display at various locations across city centre.

The ten primary schools involved in the project are Foyleview, Eglinton, Newbuildings, St Patrick’s, The Fountain, Rosemount, Hollybush, Chapel Road, St Colmcille’s and Cumber (Claudy).
