Organisations involved in Research and Innovation (R&I) and cross-border/cross community groups have been called on to make submissions to the public consultation on the new Peace and Interreg programmes for 2014/2020, which are now open.

Sinn Fein MEP Martina Anderson.

The call comes from Sinn Fein MEP Martina Anderson who said the final draft would be presented to the European Commission on 22 September this year.

Ms Anderson said: “The combined Peace IV and Interreg programmes will total more than half a billion euro in cross-border funding over the next seven years.

“In order to be successful, applicants must demonstrate that the proposed projects will enhance cross-border cooperation, promote reconciliation, a peaceful and prosperous society and contribute to the region’s future development.

“The Peace IV programme has a total value of €269m, while Interreg has a total of €282m.

“While Peace IV will focus on community and education projects with strong youth emphasis, Interreg is aimed at R&I, including health and life sciences and renewable energy, particularly with export capabilities.

“As strong interest in this round of funding is expected I would urge interested groups, organisations and business to watch out for dates of the upcoming public consultations in Derry and Belfast.”

Ms Anderson said full information on the criteria for qualification would be available at the consultations but if additional assistance was required her Constituency Office could be contacted at 028 71 318 683 or [email protected].
