James McClean.

Former Candystripes favourite James McClean is to match the sum raised for charity from Derry City midfielder’s testimonial game next month.

The Republic of Ireland international McClean, now with Skybet Championship side Wigan Athletic, is to put together a James McClean XI to take on a Barry Molloy XI in the game which will take place in Brandywell on Sunday, 22 June next.

Featuring “plenty of stars” as well as current and former Derry City players, the match is non-ticket and admission prices are £10 (adults) and £5 (under-16s).

Half the gate receipts will got to the Foyle Hospice.

On message posted on Twitter, McClean said he was looking forward to the game and would personally match the sum raised.

His Tweet says: “Looking forward to hosting this charity game for foyle hospice cancer and myself personally will match the sum made.”
