Rory Patterson: scored Derry’s second..

St Patrick’s Athletic 5 Derry City 2

Derry City are still waiting on their first away league win of the season after they were comprehensively beaten by defending champions St Patrick’s Athletic in their SSE Premier Division clash at Richmond Park tonight.

Three goals in ten minute period in the first half put the home side in control and when went on to add a further two in the second half to wrap up a comfortable victory

Derry were put on the back foot from the kick-off and it was no surprise when Christy Fagan put Pat’s ahead in the 13th minute with the first of his three goals when he beat Gerard Doherty with a low left-footed shot in the 13th minute.

Pat’s doubled their lead six minutes later when a Keith Fahey effort was cleared off the line by Ryan McBride only for the ball to rebound of Fagan into the net.

Conan Byrne put the home side firmly in control when he rose to head home a Killian Brennan corner in the 23rd minute.

Sean Hoare increased the St Pat’s lead three minutes into the second half when he headed home a Brennan cross.

Michael Duffy reduced the arrears in the 59th minute when, against the run of play, his brilliant effort from outside the penalty box gave Brendan Clarke no chance, going in off a post.

Fagan completed his hat-trick when the normally reliable Doherty made a mess of a back pass,  his attempted clearance coming off the St Pat’s forward who held his composure to score a fifth for the home side.

Rory Patterson put a bit of respectability on the scoreboard in the 82nd minute, scoring into an empty net after being set up by Barry McNamee.
