darreno'reillyIndependent candidate, Darren O’Reilly, standing in his first ever election, looks set to get elected on to the new Derry-Strabane “super council.”

Early indications from the local government count at Templemore Complex are that the 27-year-old youth co-ordinator with Rosemount Resource Centre, is set to top the poll in the Foyleside District Electoral Area (DEA).

Sinn Fein’s Sandra Duffy, who was unsuccessful in the 2011 local government election, is being tipped to get in this time round by topping the poll in the Ballyarnett DEA.

Meanwhile, another first-time candidate, Dee Quigley – who is at the forefront of a campaign for community addiction services in the North West – has polled well in the Ballyarnett DEA.

The count is continuing with the first results expected to be declared at teatime today.
