streelightRoads Service have been called on to provide adequate street lighting in the Coshquin Road area after two homes were burgled.

Both houses in Whitebridge were ransacked.

Cash, jewellery, a Nintendo DS and a Sky box were among the items taken.

Police believe a bottle-green Spar Bag for life was used to carry the goods away

The burglaries have prompted SDLP Cllr John Boyle to call on Roads Service to provide adequate street lighting in the Whitebridge area.

Cllr Boyle, who spoke to a Whitebridge resident this morning before contacting Roads Service, said: “I will also be speaking to PSNI officers about the ongoing burglaries in the area.

“I am urging residents in this area of the city to remain vigilant.

“Burglars can strike whether you are at home or not and people must remember to lock up properly at all times – especially before they go to bed for the night.

“Every door and window should be shut tight and locked if possible.

“I also appeal to anyone who can assist the police with their enquiries about this recent spate of burglaries to contact them immediately.”

Police have appealed to anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area  to contact police on the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
