Britain’s famous Red Arrows are set to carry out a spectacular aeronautical display in the skies above Derry next month.

Derry City Council has joined Donegal County Council and Limavady Borough Council to host the incredible event.

It will take place over Lough Foyle on Sunday, 29 June and will be one of the highlights of the Maritime Festival being staged in Derry to welcome the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race to the city.

It is understood the event will be officially announced in Greencastle this Friday – where the displays will officially begin before heading up the Foyle to Derry city.

The Maritime Festival is expected to attract over 100,000 visitors to the city, creating an estimated £5 million for the local economy.

One of the highlights of the eight-day festival, which will begin on 21 June, will be an outdoor concert by the legendary US group The Beach Boys.

The Foyle Quay will transformed into a “summer promenade,” complete with race village, marine marquees, award winning continental market and host of sea faring activities on and off shore.
