Adrian and Damien Garvey, directors of the BWL Group, which will create up to 30 new jobs when they open an artisan coffee shop, Synge & Byrne in Foyleside Shopping Centre.

Up to 30 new jobs are to be created in Derry by a leading coffee shop chain which is open a new outlet in the city.

The BWL Group, which manages all the O’Brien’s coffee shops in the North, will create the posts in Foyleside Shopping Centre, when it opens its latest artisan coffee shop brand – Synge & Byrne.

The new outlet will operate in Foyleside’s Food Court along with the company’s existing O’Brien’s outlet.

Newry based BWL Group has been trading for 12 years, and the new positions will increase its employee total in Derry to 60.

The positions are now available for candidates to apply for at [email protected] and they include both full and part time managers, kitchen staff and front of house servers.

Director Damien Garvey said Foyleside was the “perfect location” to open the company’s “latest venture.”

He added: “We launched Synge & Byrne in late 2013 in Greater Belfast and it is already proving popular with a new audience of coffee connoisseurs who are enjoying its artisan approach.

“The BWL Group is a strong local employer and we offer well above the minimum wage usually offered for these types of positions.

“Indeed, several of our staff have been with us since our first O’Brien’s opened in 1999 and we will work hard to maintain this record, by continuing to offer training and career development opportunities to our employees.”

Foyleside currently has 52 tenants and Centre manager, Fergal Rafferty, welcomed the latest edition.

He said, “Foyleside has had a successful partnership with the BWL Group since 2008 and are delighted to welcome Synge & Byrne to the Centre.

“Our shoppers like to have a wide and varied choice of cuisine, and as Synge & Byrne’s menu combines quality Irish ingredients with an international twist, I’m confident it will be an instant hit.”

He concluded: “This represents another significant financial investment in the scheme by a leading retailer providing employment and opportunity to the local economy.”
