Sinn Féin Cllr Karina Carlin has revealed she has contacted Strabane Council’s Technical Services Department to ensure  dog fouling bins were being emptied and made usable again on an ongoing basis.

Cllr Carlin said the move followed complaints from residents along the Glen Road who were concerned about possible health hazards as a result of  bins often left overflowing.

Cllr Carlin said: “It is an extremely positive sign that dog owners who walk their pets along the Glen Road are showing such leadership and I would commend their sense of responsibility and this reflects improvements in the dog fouling problem in other areas of the town.

“In a way, this highlights the progress of our campaign and the Council is a victim of its own success in this regard.

“However, it is important that Council’s Technical Service’s Department ensure that, giving the increased usuage of the dog fouling bins that they are being emptied to keep pace with their use and I have contacted the Dept to have these two overflowing bins along the Glen Road emptied and to request better monitoring of the bins accross the district to ensure no obstacle is put in the way of dog owners being able to use them.”
