Barry McNamee: missed opportunity to draw Derry level.

Derry City trail Shamrock Rovers 1-0 at half-time in their SSE Airtricity Premier Division clash at Brandywell.

Eyebrows were raised when the teams were announced, Derry boss Roddy Collins making five changes to the City line-up from last week’s game against Bohemians, drafting in Cormac Burke, Barry McNamee, Tony McNamee and Nathan Boyle, who all featured in the EA Sports Cup away win over Sligo Rovers on Monday.

Derry looked the more threatening in the opening period without really troubling the Rovers goal and went behind in the 34th minute when Gary McCabe gave Gerard Doherty no chance from 30 yards.

The home side should been on level terms five minutes later but Barry McNamee, who was brilliantly picked out by Enda Curran, blasted wide when it looked easier to score.

A double goal-line clearance from a corner by Barry Molloy in the 43rd denied denied Rovers 2-0 half-time lead.

Derry City: Gerard Doherty, Aaron Barry, Cliff Byrne, Roddy Collins Jnr, Ryan McBride, Cormac Burke, Barry McNamee, Tony McNamee, Barry Molloy, Nathan Boyle, Enda Curran.

Substitutes: Ciaran Gallagher, Ryan Curran, Michael Duffy, David Elebert, Dean Jarvis, Mark Stewart, Danny Ventre.
