Sent off: Rory Patterson.

Bohemians 1 Derry City 1

Rory Patterson saw red on his recall to the Derry City line-up as the Candystripes continue to wait for their first away win of the season in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division following a 1-1 draw with Bohemians at Dalymount Park this evening.

The visitors came from a goal down, a fortunate scoreline at half time, as City, not for the first time this season, played second fiddle to their opponents in the first 45.

Bohs continued to control the game early in the second half but were themselves reduced to 10 men 10 minutes after the restart.

The home side almost took the lead in the second minute when Paddy Kavanagh set up Dinny Corcoran but his shot from four yards out was deflected over the bar.

Bohemians went ahead a minute later when, following a good run down the left, Karl Moore pulled the ball back for Jason Byrne to slot home.

Derry were fortunate not to go two down a minute later.

Gerard Doherty dived full stretch to deny Paddy Kavanagh from the edge of the box and from the resulting corner Aidan Price jumped too early and failed to make contact with the ball when he found himself unmarked.

Derek Pender then shot wide from a good position four minutes later.

Patterson, dropped last week by manager Roddy Collins, had Derry’s first chance in the 12th minute when he got in behind the home defence but Pender did well to block his shot.

Patterson was again in the thick of the action four minutes later when he tried to chip Murphy from the edge of the penalty box, but the Bohs keeper saved easily.

Karl Moore, who has had the better of Roddy Collins Jnr from the kick off, once again went past the manager’s son to set up Dinny Corcoran but the Derry defence got back to clear.

Doherty came to Derry’s rescue in the 39th minute when pulled off a great save to deny Byrne doubling his tally.

Patrick McEleney brought Derry level a minute later with a contender for goal of the season when gave Murphy no chance with a curled shot from the edge of the box.

Patterson received his straight red for a dangerous tackle on Dave Mulcahy three minutes  from break.

Bohs continued to have the upper hand in the early stages of the second half but, just as they appeared to be making the extra man count, were reduced to ten men themselves when Corcoran was sent off for an off-the-ball incident in the 55th minute.

However, the dismissal did not put Bohs off their stride as Byrne just failed to get on the end of a great free kick from Kavanagh before stinging the palms of Doherty from 25 yards in the 64th minute.

McEleney tried his luck again in the 69th minute, but on this occasion his shot was deflected and Murphy saved easily.

Paddy Kavanagh spurned two half chances late in the game to snatch the three points for Bohs.
