Derry City face an uphill task in the second half of their SSE Premier Division clash with Bohemians at Dalymount Park following the sending off of recalled striker Rory Patterson late in the opening period.

Sent off: Rory Patterson.

The visitors have had to come from a goal down to be level 1-1 at half-time, a fortunate scoreline as City have, not for the first time this season, have played second fiddle to their opponents.

The home side almost took the lead in the second minute when Paddy Kavanagh set up Dinny Corcoran but his shot from four yards out was deflected over the bar.

Bohemians went ahead a minute later when, following a good run down the left, Karl Moore pulled the ball back for Jason Byrne to slot home.

Derry were fortunate not to go two down a minute later.

Gerard Doherty dived full stretch to deny Paddy Kavanagh from the edge of the box and from the resulting corner Aidan Price jumped too early and failed to make contact with the ball when he found himself unmarked.

Derek Pender then shot wide from a good position four minutes later.

Patterson, dropped last week by manager Roddy Collins, had Derry’s first chance in the 12th minute when he got in behind the home defence but Pender did well to block his shot.

Patterson was again in the thick of the action four minutes later when he tried to chip Murphy from the edge of the penalty box, but the Bohs keeper saved easily.

Karl Moore, who has had the better of Roddy Collins Jnr from the kick off, once again went past the manager’s son to set up Dinny Corcoran but the Derry defence got back to clear.

Doherty came to Derry’s rescue in the 39th minute when pulled off a great save to deny Byrne doubling his tally.

Patrick McEleney brought Derry level a minute later with a contender for goal of the season when gave Murphy no chance with a curled shot from the edge of the box.

Patterson received his straight red for a dangerous tackle on Dave Mulcahy three minutes  from break.

Substitutes: Darragh Reynor, Jake Hyland, Kevin Devaney, Dean Delaney, Keith Buckley, Stephen Traylor, Eoin Wearen.
