The Derry “LondonDerry” Doire took third place at the “scoring gate” on day six of the race from San Francisco to Panama in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
By passing through the gate in third position, the Derry entry gained an extra bonus point, finishing behind leaders GREAT Britain and second-placed Team Garmin who picked up three and two points respectively.
Sean McCarter, skipper of the Derry crew, was first to congratulate both.
He said: “Congratulations to GREAT Britain and Team Garmin who beat us to it. They have both sailed impeccably over the past few days as have the other four or five boats that could have scooped points right up until the last half hour or so.”
