City of Derry Spartan Alan Bogle.

As the build-up continues to Derry’s Wall City Marathon, record numbers are expected to line-up at the start of the Ballyliffin Coast Challenge taking place over a scenic Inishowen course today.

Among those expected to compete are City of Derry Sparan Alan Bogle, winner of the recent British Championship Mountain Race in the Mournes, Co Down.

Lining-up alongside him should be Stephen Connor from Foyle Valley AC who finished in third spot last year behind winner Pius McIntyre, Foyle Valley, who crossed the finish line on Pollan Beach in a time of 57.29.

First lady across the finish line last year was Karen Alexander who posted a time of 1.04.36.

A host of runners from Derry preparing for the upcoming June marathon are also expected to take part.

Six hundred and twenty five runners competed last year and that number is expected to be exceeded this time round as more than 500 have registered online with hundreds more expected to sign up when registration opens at 10.30am at the Ballyliffin Hotel  (registration closes at 1.30pm).
