A former administrator and media spokesperson at St Eugene’s Cathedral in Derry has been appointed the new parish priest of Cappagh.
Newly installed Bishop of Derry, Most Rev Donal McKeown, has appointed Fr Kevin McElhennon as Fr Eugene Boland’s successor in the Co Tyrone parish.
Fr McElhennon had acted as administrator for the parish between August 2010 and March this year.
Moville-born Fr Boland had returned to work in the parish last month after being cleared of indecent assault charges while ministering in parish of St Joseph’s in Galliagh, Derry, in 2012.
However, he resigned two weeks later.
Senior clergy said it had been clear he needed more time before returning to ministry.
